Handheld Blood Testing

Serum Amyloid A ( SAA )

Serum amyloid A (SAA) is an acute phase protein that is produced predominantly by the liver in response to inflammation due to infection. It usually increases with a few hours of the onset of inflammation and can be detected in peripheral blood within 6-12 hours (depending on the severity of infection).

In The Field Testing

Rapid in the field testing can be beneficial for infection cases. Our vets carry the readers in the cars and we can have a result in just 9 minutes. Monitoring SAA in certain cases can help ascertain what course of treatment is more appropriate.
