What is Alpha2EQ®?
Alpha2EQ® is an orthobiologic which means it can be produced by a horse’s own blood. It contains high concentrations of Alpha2 macroglobulin. But we hear you saying what is an “alpha-2-macroglobulin molecule”?
Alpha-2-macroglobulin is a potent anti-inflammatory molecule which is a naturally occurring protein within the blood. The molecule has the ability to block the destructive effect of certain enzymes by capturing them in a “trap” and rendering them as ineffective. When you get inflammation within the body due to disease, trauma or even natural “wear and tear” these destructive enzymes cause pain and in many instances lameness. By removing the destructive enzymes, pain can be subsequently removed too.
