The Performance MOT

You wouldn't drive your car for years without an MOT. Your horse works just as hard, and many of the problems that hold horses back are invisible until they're well established. The Performance MOT looks at three areas where small problems often cause big changes in how a horse goes: the stomach, the back and the front feet. Whether you hack, compete or are bringing a horse back into work after a break, it gives you a clear picture of where your horse stands today. Both the visit fee and the sedation are included.

After the visit you'll receive a written report with a simple traffic-light summary for each area:
Pass: no concerns found
Advisory: something to keep an eye on or recheck
Action needed: we'll discuss a treatment or management plan with you
It's a useful record to share with your farrier, saddle fitter, physio and trainer, and a baseline to compare against next year.

We look directly at the lining of the stomach to check for gastric ulcers. These are common in horses in work and can show up as girthiness, poor appetite, grumpiness or a drop in performance.

Radiographs of the back let us assess the spinous processes and identify issues such as close or impinging spines ("kissing spines") before they affect your horse's way of going or your saddle fit.

X-rays of both front feet show how the bones inside the hoof sit relative to the hoof capsule. We share these with your farrier so shoeing or trimming decisions are based on what's really going on inside the foot.
